Who am I?

Answering the typical questions of a news lead, let me introduce myself properly. My name is Mariana Festa, I'm from Santo Tirso, near Porto, and I'm 21 years old.

I have a lot of interests. Design, digital marketing, journalism, storytelling and photography are some of the main ones.

My journey

Until university I studied all my life in Santo Tirso – although some dreams wanted to take me to a neighboring city to study theater. I ended up studying socio-economic sciences in high school and at the moment I have a bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences at University of Minho . Theater – Economics – Communication, all very coherent, I would say (if I wanted to resort to irony). The truth is that the communication's universe has always attracted me and attending this course has only made me see I want to stay in these area for a long while. Why? Well, because I believe communication is crucial, becoming the key to success or at least a way to get there. In addition to the fact that it is always satisfying to be able to say that one has contributed in part to the success of something or someone.

Throughout these three years in my degree I had the opportunity to be part of several associations. I was a journalist at ComUM , I was part of the communication department of the junior enterprise of Minho Young Minho Enterprise  and, together with some other coursemates, I created the 'Conselho de Comunicação' - a group of students from Communication Sciences founded in 2020 to welcome new students in a more easy-going way, and at the same time working as an organ for creating and sharing information that would be of interest to the course students' and the academy in general.

In the first semester of the third year, I also had the opportunity to undertake the Erasmus+ mobility. It was the Università Degli Studi di Torino that welcomed me and where I could study the design area a little bit more. At the same time, I took a beginner Italian course offered by the University of Turin. But my experience was not just about “theoretical” teachings. I dealt with a lot of people very different from me (with different nationalities as well), I got to know new cultures and cities and I had to adapt to some challenges that came along the way and I believe that all of this enriched me a lot.
